Face to face or online interactive courses with lawyer – linguist Sue Leschen who has 22 years professional experience of working with individuals with limited English proficiency.
WHO ARE THE COURSES FOR?
Adults who are individuals or who are members of corporate groups – learn on a one-to-one basis or in a group with your colleagues.
The courses will be of use for
- The workplace – your work involves a certain standard of written and / or spoken English. Perhaps you are a lawyer or a trainee lawyer or you work with lawyers?
- Examinations and tests – you are due to sit an exam which will test your proficiency in written and/ or spoken English such as those of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting, Certificate in Translation, Diploma In Translation, Language Level Assessments, Certified English speaking test), TOLES test, IELTS test, TOEFL examination , the Law Society’s Solicitors Qualifying Examination and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives’ examinations.
TAILORED COURSES
The courses are tailored to the specific needs of attendees on or offline or even on both. Some attendees may need to spend more time on written rather than spoken English or vice versa. Attendees may just need one off help and support to prepare for a business meeting or a court case or perhaps to prepare an inhouse briefing note for colleagues or to write letters or emails to clients. Others may need more in depth and ongoing support such as to prepare for a legal examination or test or perhaps a job interview. The course will proceed at a pace that suits you.
WHAT THE COURSES CAN INCLUDE
Courses will focus primarily on YOUR needs but will also aim to cover:
- Legalese – legal jargon used by lawyers
- Register (formal and informal speech)
- King’s English and slang
- Idioms and puns
- Differences between UK and US English legal terminology
- Coherent and concise legal English
- Checking your English on your CV, job application, LinkedIn profile
